Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to adapt the Emotional Competence Online Psycho-education (ECOP) into Turkish and to examine the effect of this psycho-education on the levels of Emotional Competence (emotion recognition, emotion understanding and emotion regulation skills) in young people between the ages of 16-22 living in Türkiye. In this research, the Solomon Four Group Design, one of the true experimental designs, was used. The study group consisted a total of 223 Turkish youngesters: N=109 in the first group (experiment N=55, control N=54) and N=114 in the second group (experiment N=42, control N=72). The adapted psycho-education was applied to the participants through asynchronous online platforms. The data were collected from 12 different regions of Turkey according to the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics Level-1. GERT-S, was implemented to measure emotion recognition. CEUT-S, was utilised to measure emotion understanding; and STEM-S, was utilised to measuere emotion regulation. The Personal Information Form was exploited to get information from participants. Two-way ANOVA for independent groups and SPSS 22.0 were utilised for the analysis. Based on the results, post-test scores of emotion recognition, emotion understanding and emotion regulation do not show a significant difference according to whether or not participants take the aforementioned pre-tests. While the post-test scores of emotion recognition and emotion understanding of those who participated in psycho-education were significantly higher than those who did not participate in psycho-education, their emotion regulation did not show a significant difference. Emotion regulation showed a significant difference, while the post-test scores of emotion recognition and emotion understanding did not show a significant difference depending on the common effect of participating in psycho-education and taking the relevant pre-tests. As a conclusion, ECOP has a low effect on emotional competence in Turkish youngesters.
