Investigation of the effect of parents' childhood trauma on parent attitudes and parent-child relations

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of childhood traumas experienced by mothers on parental attitudes and relationships with their children. The research was carried out with the relational screening model. The research was carried out with the participation of 389 mothers with children aged 4-6 years in Istanbul. In the study, demographic information form, Childhood Trauma Scale (CTQ), Parental Attitude Scale (ETS), Child-Parent Relationship Scale (CIAS) were given to the participants. As a result of the research, differences were found in comparisons with demographic data. There is a high level of positive correlation between Child Parent Relationship Scale and Childhood Trauma Scale. There is a high level of negative correlation between Child Parent Relationship Scale and Democratic sub-dimension. There is a high level of positive correlation between the Child Parent Relationship Scale and the Authoritarian sub-dimension. There is a moderate negative relationship between the Child Parent Relationship Scale and the Overprotective sub-dimension. There is a very weak negative relationship between the Child Parent Relationship Scale and the Permissive sub-dimension. There is a high level of negative correlation between the Democratic sub-dimension and the Childhood Trauma Scale. There is a high level of positive correlation between the authoritarian sub-dimension and the Childhood Trauma Scale. There is a moderate negative correlation between the Overprotective sub-dimension and the Childhood Traumas Scale. Childhood Traumas, Democratic Attitude, Authoritarian Attitude, Protective Attitude and Permissive Attitude predicted Child-Parent Relationship significantly.
