Abstract (EN)
Objective: In this study, it was aimed to examine the effects of locally applied mucoadhesive gel containing propolis in the experimental periodontitis model created in rats, biochemically and histopathologically. Materiyal end metod: In the study, 35 Sprague Dawley male rats with an average weight of 200-250 g were used. In order to induce periodontitis, 3/0 silk suture material was passed submarginally to the right mandibular first incisor under appropriate anesthesia and the knot was tied in the vestibule. On the 11th day following the removal of the ligature, these ligatures were removed again under anesthesia and the groups were given a mucoadhesive gel containing 50 mg and 100 mg of propolis; The gel prepared with chitosan used in mucoadhesive gel preparation was applied to the control group rats every day with the same method. No gel was applied to the negative control group. As a healthy control group, 7 rats were housed in different cages in the same experimental room without ligature and gel application. On the 8th day, intracardiac blood samples were collected under general anesthesia. Then, euthanasia was performed by cervical dislocation. Appropriately removed gingival tissues were taken into buffer solution for histopathological examinations. IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α and CRP levels were measured in an ELISA device using commercial test kits. Hemogram measurements were performed on a blood count device. The results obtained were evaluated using appropriate statistical methods. . Results: According to the results obtained, it was observed that the mucoadhesive gel containing propolis caused a non-statistical decrease in serum CRP, IL-1, IL-6 and TNF-α levels. Conclusion: According to the results obtained from this study, the application of mucoadhesive gel containing propolis may contribute to the reduction of periodontal inflammation, the prevention of tissue destruction and healing.
