The bibliometric and content analysis of Education and Science Journal

Education and Science journal, which started its publication life in 1976, is among the respected education journal of Türkiye. Since 2007, Education and Science journal has been indexed by the Web of Science (WoS), which provides comprehensive citation data for many different academic disciplines and is considered the world's most reliable global citation database. This research and the general content analysis of the articles published in the journal Education and Science between 2017 and 2021 also demonstrate it. In this case, the metadata of all publications (N=1270) published in the journal between 2007 and 2022 were accessed from the WoS database and bibliometrically analyzed in terms of the total number of publications and citations, the h index, the number of citations per publication, the annual citation, the citation threshold, the annual average citation, and the total link strength, evaluated as. Additionally, the study presents an analysis of citation, co-citation, bibliographic matching, co-authorship, and co-occurrence of author keywords as well as visual maps made based on the results of a bibliometric mapping analysis done using the VOSviewer software. The Journal of Education and Science published 317 articles between 2017 and 2021, and the full texts of these articles were accessed for the purpose of conducting a content analysis. The articles were examined for their research methodology and design, sampling technique, scope, and size, data collection tools, data analysis techniques, and examined variables. The most of publications in the Education and Science journal are in the form of articles, the number of publications has increased continuously from 2007 to 2014, and the number of publications varies according to the years after 2014, the research's findings indicate. In the 16 years from 2007, when the Education and Science journal began to be scanned in WoS, and 2022, a total of 5361 references were made to 1270 publications published in the journal. The most cited item in the Science and Education journal was 'Introducing STEM education: Implications for educating our teachers for the age of innovation', and the most of the publications in the journal were written by M.B. Miles and A.M. Hubarman. It was concluded that he was referring to the Huberman publication named 'Qualitative Data Analysis: An Expanded Sourcebook'. The most cited author is M. Çalık, the journal is Education and Science, the university is Hacettepe University, and the country is Türkiye, according to an analysis of the distribution of citations in the publications in the Education and Science journal according to the author, journal, institute, and countries. While M. Özdemir was the most productive author in the Education and Science journal, it was seen that the most productive institution was Hacettepe University. When the bibliometric maps formed as a result of the research are examined, the most commonly cited journal in the publications in the Education and Science journal is the Journal of Education and Science, while the author is the Ministry of National Education. While it was found that all authors and institutions meeting the threshold value of 5 publications for authors and 10 publications for institutions were interconnected, it was noted that there was no cooperation among the co-authorship clusters formed by the authors. In addition, authors who published in the Education and Science journal created 4 different sets of bibliographic matches, while institutions created 3 different sets. The most significant keywords are academic achievement, reliability, validity, teacher, gender, pre-service teachers, self-efficacy, higher education, and structural equation modeling when the co-occurrence of the author keywords of the articles in the Education and Science journal is analyzed. Author investigated topics including action research, mixed methods, secondary school students, social sciences, and meta-analysis, it was determined. According to the results of the content analysis, it has been revealed that the quantitative research method and the relational survey research design within the quantitative research method are the most used method and design in the publications in the Education and Science journal. It has been determined that the most frequently used sampling method in the publications in the Education and Science journal is purposive sampling, the sample level is teachers, and the sample number is 31-100. In addition, surveys were the most frequently used data collection tool in publications in the Education and Science journal, while the data analysis method was ANOVA-ANCOVA, one of the quantitative predictive methods. Finally, it has been determined that academic achievement, teacher opinions and reading skills are mostly discussed in the publications in the Education and Science journal.
