The usage of management information systems in education sector: A field study on high vocational schools where office management department is studied

In this paper, we examine the usage of Management Information Systems in educational area, especially universities where Office Management Subject is studied. The main aim is in which level usage of Management Information Systems of universities.A questionnare is prepared to get data and sent all universities where Office Management is studied by e-mail and fax. 91 universities filled questionnares and send them back.The first result of this study is that, the ratio of universities use computers is 100 %. The universities uses computers in all areas and effectively. All universities have internet connection and the 89% of them have possibility to reach school from home via internet. Howover the investment for information Technologies is very low, 56% of universities? investment of information system is 5% of their total investment.This study shows that, private schools attach importance to use Management Information Systems than public schools. Another important result of this study is 63% of universities use MIF (Manager Information System) effectively, 26,4% of them use in medium level. The other result is the investment of information technologies is related positively with the area of usage of Management Information Systems in schools.Another result of study is that usage of MIF change according to university is public or private. Managers in private universities use MIF more than managers in public universities. Usage of Management Information Systems achieves a positive change in operational processes.
