Abstract (EN)

The development process in Turkey in general started with the proclamation of the Republic, with the economic, social and cultural changes experienced in other Anatolian cities, especially in Ankara. As a result of the end of industrialization in Turkey in the 1950s, rapid urbanization can be achieved. As a result of the systematicalization of the rail and road transport network in Turkey, cities have provided development and growth. The urbanization process of Elazig started with the relocation of the governorship and other administrative units from Harput, the first settlement of the city, to the hamlet (plain). The development in the city, which was moved to the hamlet due to the unfavorable natural conditions of Harput in 1834, progressed slowly. The increase in industrial investments as a result of the construction of the railway in 1934, the development of the highway and the solution of the electricity energy problem with the Keban Dam accelerated the urban development in Elazig. In this study, the development, change and transformation of Elazig, one of the young cities of Anatolia, has been examined and the factors in these processes have been discussed. Then, the urbanization process of Elazig was examined together with the zoning plans and investment decisions. While examining these plans, the reflection of the positive and negative features of the decisions taken on the urbanization process of Elazig was emphasized.
