Evaluation of the relationship between endoscopic diagnosis and helicobacter pylori and the change of the findings obtained in the last 20 years

Objective: In this study, while trying to determine the prevalence of Hp in our region and the change in this prevalence over the years in patients who were histopathologically investigated for Helicobacter pylori in 1998-2000 and 2018-2020, it was also tried to determine the relationship between endoscopic diagnosis and Helicobacter pylori and the change in this relationship over the years. Our study included 3791 patients between 1998-2000 and 2831 patients between 2018-2020. In our study, we tried to reveal the change especially in the last 20 years. Materials and Methods: Cases who underwent Esophagogastroduedonoscopy (EGD) examination in Aydın Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Medicine Internal Diseases Gastroenterology Endoscopy Unit and Helicobacter pylori were investigated in biopsy were included in the study. The study was conducted retrospectively. Patients younger than 18 years of age, who have had gastric resection or have used proton pump inhibitors or antibiotics in the last 2 weeks, were excluded from the study. Results: A total of 6622 patients, 3791 between 1998-2000 and 2831 between 2018-2020, were included in the study. The prevalence of Hp in patients who underwent EGD was found to be 49.5% between 1998-2000 and 27.3% between 2018-2020. When endoscopic diagnoses were evaluated separately, it was observed that the prevalence of Hp decreased statistically in all diagnostic categories over the years.
