Abstract (EN)

The transfer of information systems such as the Internet and computer technology to production processes and the introduction of technologies such as automation, artificial intelligence, cyber-physical systems, smart products based on the Internet of Things and augmented/virtual reality into human life has led to the emergence of a new industrial revolution called Industry 4.0. The industry 4.0 revolution aims to functionalize the products, services and spaces used in daily life with the help of digital information technologies and thus increase the interaction between users and these structures. The adaptability of information technologies to living spaces leads to a change in the traditional understanding of interior space and leads to the emergence of interactive spaces that can change with their mechanical and digital infrastructures according to the wishes, needs and demands of users. The design processes of these spaces equipped with the innovative technologies of the industry 4.0 era also affect the approach of interior architects to the phenomenon of interior design. In this study, the changes and developments created by the concept of industry 4.0 and the innovative technologies emerging with this concept in the form language and usage patterns of interactive spaces are examined from the perspective of the interior architecture discipline, which plays an important role in the design of these spaces. The aim of the study is to determine the design approaches, methodologies, and processes that interior architects can use in interior design studies to be carried out in this field, and in this way, to make guiding inferences about the evolution of the interior architecture discipline in the near future. Increasing the knowledge and experience of interior architects about the possibilities and limitations of industry 4.0 technologies is important because it will change the design processes of interactive spaces to be created in this field, differentiate their relations with engineering, interface design and experience design disciplines, which are experts in this design field, and thus benefit the evolution of the phenomenon of space. In this study, in which grounded theory method; one of the qualitative research methods; was used, in order to understand the approaches of interior architects to the industry 4.0 phenomenon and to determine how they adapt it to space design processes, semi-structured in-depth qualitative interviews were conducted with interior architects working in this field; interviews, podcasts, seminars and similar media publications in this field were coded and analyzed, and data were collected by examining the examples of industry 4.0-based interactive space design. As a result of the inferences made by analyzing this data, the design methodologies that interior architects can use in industry 4.0-based interactive space processes have been determined, the constraints they experience in this field and the opportunities they have achieved have been identified. As a result of the research, the transformation that interior architecture will experience in the new industrial revolution period has been revealed. The research consists of 6 chapters. Chapter 1 acts as an introduction and introduces the topic, defines the research problem, states the purpose and importance of the research. The research hypothesis and research questions are defined and the scope, limitations, methodology and structure of the study are explained in this chapter. In Chapter 2, the concept of industry 4.0 is defined, general definitions about this concept are made, industry 4.0 technologies are summarized and the relationship of the concept with design is examined and the areas where it is used and design methods and principles are examined. In Chapter 3, the concepts of smart home and interactivity are defined in the perspective of interior architecture, their relationship with the concept of interactive space design is examined and the possibilities and limitations of interactive space designs are mentioned. In Chapter 4, in order to examine the phenomenon of industry 4.0 based interactive space design, firstly the approaches of engineering and interior architecture disciplines to interactive spaces and interface design are compared. Then, the considerations and design principles that interior architects consider in the design of interactive spaces are determined and the criteria affecting the form of the space are examined. Based on these data, the design methodologies used in interactive spaces were mentioned and the approaches of interior architects in the industry 4.0-based interactive space design processes were analyzed with the help of interviews and media publications. In chapter 5, the methods that can be used in the design processes of industry 4.0 based spaces, the limitations and possibilities of these technologies, and the changes they will create in the discipline of interior architecture are interpreted by discussing and evaluating the data obtained in the research. In the conclusion section of the research, based on the evaluations obtained, a model proposal on the design methods that interior architects can use in the design processes of industry 4.0-based interactive spaces is presented, the research questions are answered by mentioning the findings and the hypothesis is confirmed and suggestions for future research in this field are presented. Keywords: Industry 4.0, Interactive Interior Space Design, Interactivity, Smart Home, Digital Interactive Technologies, Spatial Experience.
