Abstract (EN)

This study is a theoretical study, aiming at describing body as a biopolitics subject dominated by industry or industrial product. The main purpose of this study is to make an equal observation for all bodies, which are directed, limited, dominated or otherized by industrial products. These observations are defined, presented and illustrated by sociology, philosophy and industrial design literature. Since, biopolitics subject is a critical term in order to express the mentioned analysis through relations between body and industry. This study is supported with feminism and queer theory. It is also structured with critical theory for purpose of explaining and relating the examples. This study examines relations between products and body over a biopolitics frame with critical approach for describe concept of dominative object, to industrial product. In this perception aims of focus on body as a method of approach is examine and illustrate stereotyping, ignore, directing, controlling, separating or restrictions of industry and industrial objects over consumers bodies. This products defined as dominative objects are collected in three main headlines to amplify these features causing domination. These three headlines are determined as physical perspective, feminist perspective and psychological perspective. The mentioned dominating relationship between industrial product and body is implied by the object to the body. These argument was described based on examination of anthropometric data used in product design, sociology based readings and personal observations. Design products can not be evaluated without the restrictions of industry and mass production. The industrial limitations partially exert normative behaviors on consumers. This pushes designers into reproducing dominative objects. Analyzing objects with a focus on body and giving examples of domination may provide ground to discuss the possibility of more appropriate design products which are respectful to body diversity in the future. In this context, while the examples have been selected in this study shows stereotypes based on mass production, at the same time it looks from a different angle to industrial product in line with changing conditions, technological opportunities and individual needs. In this way, the study emphasizes the possibility of more inclusive, holistic and equal approach.
