Examining the expectations of families with disabled children from local governments for barrier-free life and sports activities (Malatya province example)

Aim: The aim of the research is to examine the expectations of families with disabled children from local governments for unhindered life and sports activities in Malatya province. Material and Method: Research; It is a qualitative study and a case study approach was used. The population of the research consists of families who have a disabled child and send their child to physical activity in the province of Malatya, and the sample is the families of individuals who attend the Özel Anadolu Özel Eğitim ve Rehabilitasyon Merkezi and receive services related to sports activities from this center. The research group was determined by purposive sampling method. In line with the purposeful sampling method, interviews were started with the parents and these interviews were carried out until data saturation was achieved. A total of 26 people were interviewed, but since data repetition started to occur after the 20th person, the analysis of the research was carried out on 20 people. A semi-structured interview form was used as a data collection tool in the research. In the process of creating the data collection tool, first of all, draft forms were prepared by scanning the relevant literature about the department and the area of interest, which is the focus of the research. These forms were arranged with the opinions of three field experts and took their final form. The interviews were conducted face to face. Results: The data obtained in the study were analyzed using the content analysis method. In line with the data obtained; Three main themes were created: sportive activities, sportive activities at provincial and country level, and families, government and municipal services. Conclusion: As a result of our research, the expectations of families with disabled children from local for unhindered life and sports activities; information activities, eliminating the problems in common living areas, allocating social and sports areas for disabled individuals and increasing the number of recreational activities Keywords: Disabled Person, Family Expectations, Barrier-free Life, Sporting Activity, Local Government
