ABSTRACT A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF SOCIAL PERCEPTION OF ADOLESCENTS WITH DIABETIC, EPILEPTIC AND HEALTHY WİTH REGARD TO PERCEIVED PARENT ATTUTIDE AND SOME OTHER VARIABLES Metehan ÇELİK M. A Thesis, Department of Education Sciences Supervisor : Prof. Dr. Banu İNANÇ January-2000, 87 pages In the study the social perception of adolescents is examined with regarded to their health situation ( being epileptic,diabetic and healthy ) and perceived parent attitudes. Additionaly gender, age, parent education, mother and father's occupation are the variables investigated concerning social perception of adolescents. Sample was 96 epileptic, 74 diabetic and 96 healthy high school students. Subjects were asked to complete "Parent Attitude Perception Scale ", "Social Comparison Scale" and "Demografic Information Form". The results show that the social perception of adolescents are not differed according to gender, age, education status and occupation of parents.However a significant difference is found between their health status and parents attitudes. In other words adolescents who percieved their parents as demogratic have high social perceptions. In adition diabetic adolescents and adolescents who are not cronicaly ill are found to have higher social perception than epileptic adolescents.
