The effects of some personality and family characteristics of adolescents on criminal behaviour

This research that aims to investigate the effects of the personality and family characteristics of adolescents on crime behaviour was desigined in a procedural relational research models based on quantitative research models.A total of 213 adolescents, aged 13-17, 58 female and 155 male, selected by purposive sampling method participated in the research. In the research Delinquency Scale was used to measure the criminal behavior of adolescents, Personality Assesment Questionnaire was used to measure personality characteristics, Parental Acceptance-Rejeckioh/Control Questionnaire was used to measure family charakteristics, Personal Information Form developed by the researcher to determine the sociodemographic characteristics were used.As a results of the research; maternal acceptance-rejection, father acceptance-rejection, personality and maternal control significantly predict the criminal behavior of adolescents. According to these; rejection of adolescents by their parents, unhealthy personality traits, and exposure to restrictive mother control increase criminal behavior of adolescents. When we look at the personality traits of the crime behavior of adolescents; having hostile feelings and exhibiting aggressive behavior; experiencing imbalance in emotional state; adolescents who are dependent on the positive response and support of other people and who find the world and people dangerous and unreliable exhibit more criminal behavior. When family characteristics that predict the criminal behavior of adolescents are examined; the fact that adolescents have low levels of love affair with their mother, that they are rejected by their parents despite the lack of concrete behavior of both parents, and that their father is exposed to hostile and aggressive behavior increase the criminal behavior of adolescents. In this framework, the curative, preventive and supportive measures to reduce the crime risk for juvenile delinquency, as well as the rehabilitation of adolescents with criminal behavior, adolescent and family oriented; effective social service interventions are needed in micro, mezzo and macro dimensions.
