Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to compare the physical and psychological effects of supervised exercise programs that can be applied in 6 weeks and 12 weeks in obese adults and to examine adherence to exercise. 21 obese women between the ages of 18-60 participated in the study. Participants were randomly divided into two groups: 6-week supervised exercise group (Group 1, n=11) (short term) and 12-week supervised exercise group (Group 2, n=10) (medium term). The training program is a two-term program consisting of six weeks each. In the first 6-week period, two supervised exercise programs are applied to each group. In the second 6-week period, Group 1 continued with home exercise and Group 2 continued with supervised exercise. The exercise program, which consists of posture, balance, aerobic endurance, lower extremity and core muscles endurance, and strengthening exercises, lasting 45-60 minutes, is applied 2 days a week. Participants were tested at baseline, week 6 and week 12, using the Timed Up and Go Test, Standing on One Leg Test, 30 seconds Sit and Stand Test in Chair, 6 minutes Walking Test, Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (IKINMQSS), Nottingham Health Profile (NHP), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) was assessed with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Additionally, exercise adherence of the groups was also questioned. After the exercise training, it was observed that both groups stood on one leg on the right side, and there was an improvement in the NHP first and second part total score, BDI and IPAC moderate physical activity scores (p<0.05). In addition to this effect, a significant difference was detected in body weight, body mass index, left side standing on one leg, and endurance walking test scores in Group 2 (p<0.05). In Group 1, an increase was observed only in the IPAC total score (p<0.05). Comparisons between groups showed a significant difference in Group 2 in moderate physical activity and total score of IPAC at the 12th week (p<0.05). In the second period of the exercise programme (6-12 weeks), the exercise adherence of Group 2 was significantly higher (p<0.05). As a result of the study, it was seen that participation in exercise, sleep and physical activity was increased more in medium-term supervised exercise than in short-term supervised exercise.
