Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to determine the relationship between codependency, relationship satisfaction, and psychological well-being among adults in romantic relationships. A total of 213 Turkish participants, including 119 females and 94 males, selected through appropriate sampling method, completed the Personal Information Form, Codependency Assessment Tool (CODAT), Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS), and Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS). Pearson correlation analysis and simple linear regression analysis were used to determine the relationships between the scales, while Independent Samples t-test and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were employed to examine the variations in scale scores according to sociodemographic variables. The research findings revealed a positive and significant relationship between relationship satisfaction and psychological well-being, a negative relationship between relationship satisfaction and codependency, a negative predictive role of relationship satisfaction explaining 7% of the variance in codependency, and a negative predictive role of psychological well-being explaining 10% of the variance in codependency. When the research findings were examined by gender, no significant differences were found in terms of relationship satisfaction, psychological well-being, and total score of codependency. However, significant differences were observed in the sub-dimensions of codependency, namely "self-concealment" and "family-related issues," based on gender. Furthermore, no significant differences were found in relationship satisfaction and psychological well-being based on educational level, but differences were observed in the "family-related issues" sub-dimension of codependency. When the research findings were analyzed according to the relationship type, no significant differences were found in relationship satisfaction, while differences were found in the "self-concealment" sub-dimension of codependency based on relationship type. Lastly, no significant differences were found in psychological well-being based on relationship duration, but differences were observed in the "self-concealment" sub-dimension of codependency. The obtained findings were discussed in relation to the previous studies in the literature, and suggestions were provided.
