Abstract (EN)
This study aims to analyze the relationship between negative childhood experiences and perfectionism and body image among individuals with cosmetic surgery experience. Moreover, the negative childhood experiences and their perfectionist perceptions' predictability on body image of individuals with cosmetic surgery were examined. The sample group includes individuals living in Turkey who are aged around 20-60. It is sampled with 173 female, 62 male in a total of 235 people who had cosmetic surgery. Personal Information Form, Childhood Traumas Scale, Body Image Scale, Frost Multidimensional Scale were used as a data collection tool. According to the findings acquired from the quantitative assessment tools, individuals with cosmetic surgery have a negative relationship between their negative childhood experiences and their body image. This study indicates that individuals with cosmetic surgery experiences have a negative relationship between body image and sub-dimensions of perfectionism with regards to being afraid of making mistakes, expectations of family, family criticism, not being sure of his/her actions; but it has a positive relationship in terms of sub-dimensions of order. Additionally, it was found that physical neglect and overcontrol subscales from the Negative Childhood Traumas Scale, and worrying about making mistakes, personal standards and order from perfectionism were predictor of body image among individuals who have cosmetic surgery experiences. It could be suggested that childhood traumas and perfectionism might be addressed with using quantitative and qualitative methods, specifically in individuals who have cosmetic surgery and/or who have been planning to have surgery in the future studies.
