Investigating the effect of interactive infographics on the social skills of children with intellectual disabilities

Nowadays, with the reflection of new inventions on technology, the areas where technology is used have expanded. One of these areas is education. The use of technology in process of designing, developing, implementing and evaluating of scientific informations, tools, methods and techniques is defined as instructional technologies.It has been deemed necessary to use instructional technologies in special education as it is a supportive tool in eliminating the difficulties that individuals with special needs may encounter as well as individuals with normal development. Individuals with intellectual disabilities learn many social skills, especially that their normally developing peers acquire by observing their families and environments, by using teaching materials. The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of teaching provided through interactive infographics to children aged 60-72 months with mild intellectual disabilities on their social skills. The interactive infographic prepared for this purpose is presented based on the direct teaching method. ABA design, which is one of the single-subject research models, was used in this research. The participants of the research consist of two boy and one girl aged 60-72 months with mild mental disabilities and their teacher at a special education kindergarten in Elazığ city center. As a result of the study, it was seen that the interactive infographic presented based on the direct teaching method is effective on the social skills of the participants. Additionally, when the findings obtained two and three weeks after the implementation phase was completed, it was determined that the participants largely preserved the social skills they had acquired. At the end of the research, as a result of the interviews with the teacher of the participants, it was seen that the social validity datas of the application are positive.
