Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to examine the role expectations of married individuals in terms of their demographic characteristics and to determine the predictive relationships between the marriage role expectations of the participants and their marital satisfaction. A total of 422 married individuals, 266 women and 156 men, participated in the research. Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher, Marriage Role Expectations Scale developed by Köksal and İlhan (2018) and Marriage Life Scale developed by Tezer (1996) were used as data collection tools in the study. SPSS 21.0 statistical software was used in the analysis of the data. Information on the personal characteristics of the participants is shown in the frequency and percentage tables. The coefficients of Skewness and Kurtosis were used in testing the normality of the total and sub-dimension scores of the scales. The fact that the skewness and kurtosis coefficients used in the normal distribution feature of the scores obtained from a continuous variable are within ±1 limits can be interpreted as the scores do not show a significant deviation from the normal distribution (Büyüköztürk, 2011). In the comparison of the scores of the non-normally distributed variable (egalitarian) scores according to the demographic variables consisting of two groups by performing logarithmic transformations, two independent samples t-test; ANOVA test was used in the comparison according to the variables consisting of more than two groups. When a significant difference was observed in the ANOVA test, the LSD post hoc test was used to determine between which groups the difference was. In the correlation test between marital role expectations and marital satisfaction, Pearson correlation test; Multiple regression analysis was used to determine whether marital role expectations predict marital satisfaction. The statistical significance level in the analyzes was accepted as 0.05 (p<0.05). According to the findings obtained in terms of demographic variables, the egalitarian role expectation score of female participants is significantly higher than the scores of male participants. The traditional role expectation scores of male participants are significantly higher than the scores of female participants. When we look at the results of the research, it is seen that the egalitarian and traditional role expectation scores differ significantly according to the gender, age, duration of marriage and the number of children they have; It has been determined that there is no significant difference according to the income status of the individual's own family and the age of marriage. It was found that egalitarian role expectation scores did not differ significantly according to the education level of the individual, working in an income generating job, monthly income status and the number of marriages; It was determined that traditional role expectation scores differed significantly according to education status, working in an income-generating job, monthly income status and number of marriages. It was determined that the first model showing the relationship between marital role expectations and marital satisfaction was appropriate and there was no multicollinearity problem between the independent variables. Marriage role expectations explain about 6% of the variation in marital satisfaction. According to the regression coefficients and the t-test results regarding the significance of the coefficients, egalitarian role expectation and traditional role expectation predict marital satisfaction positively and significantly. On the other hand, the power of egalitarian role expectation to explain marital satisfaction is higher than traditional role expectation.
