Investigation of anger expression style and forgiveness of married individuals

The aim of this research is to determine the anger expression styles of married individuals, their motivation to forgive, the situations they forgive and cannot forgive, and to reach results that can guide healthy marriages. In the study, phenomenological research design, which is one of the qualitative research types, was used. Since people with certain characteristics will be studied in the research, the study group was determined by the criterion sampling technique, which is one of the purposeful sampling methods. Participants were selected from among married individuals aged between 25 and 45 years, with a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 20 years of marriage. The study group of the research consists of 24 married individuals (9 men, 15 women) living in Ankara. A semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher was used in the interviews. The interviews were audio-recorded with the consent of the participants, and the data were manually transcribed by the researcher. Content analysis was used to analyze the obtained data. The researcher determined the sub-themes and the main themes characterizing the sub-themes according to the codes he reached from the answers. As a result of the analysis of the data, 9 main themes emerged: issues that anger the person, anger expression style, situations that reduce anger, situations forgiven, motivation for forgiveness, unforgivable issues, self-forgiveness process, change in marriage over time, and marriage recommendations. The results obtained were discussed and interpreted within the scope of the literature.
