The relations between family beginning, differentiation of self, cognitive distortions related interpersonal relationships and marriage expectations in unmarried individuals

In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationships between family belongings, cognitive distortions related to interpersonal relationships, differentiation of self and marriage expectations in unmarried individuals. The sample of the study consisted of 377 unmarried individuals living in Turkey. "Family Belonging Scale", "Cognitive Distortions Related to Relationships Scale", "Differentiation of Self Scale", "Marriage Expectation Scale" and "Personal Information Form" created by the researcher were used to collect data in the research. The analyzes of the data obtained from the research were made using SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 21.0 package programs. As a result of the research, it was found that the differentiation of self differed significantly according to marriage expectations in unmarried individuals, but cognitive distortions related to interpersonal relationships and family belonging did not differ according to marriage expectations. In the study, when the role of cognitive distortions related to interpersonal relations sub-dimensions in predicting family belonging sub-dimensions was examined, it was concluded that the sub-dimension of avoidance of closeness negatively predicted self-identity and family belonging, and unrealistic expectations positively predicted self- belong and family belonging. When the role of the cognitive distortions related to interpersonal relations sub-dimensions in predicting the differentiation of the self was examined, it was found that the sub-dimension of avoidance of intimacy negatively predicted emotional reactivity and emotional disconnection, unrealistic expectations negatively predicted the differentiation of the whole self, and the mind-reading sub-dimension predicted the differentiation of the whole self positively. When the role of differentiation of self sub-dimensions in predicting family belonging sub-dimensions was examined, it was found that ego position positively predicted family belonging, and emotional disconnection positively predicted both self belonging and family belonging. In addition, it was concluded that the sub-dimension of dependence on others predicted both sub-dimensions of family belonging.
