Abstract (EN)

Serum B12 levels and cobalt levels were investigated in sheep and goats in different breeds. Within the scope of the study, 5 races including Akkaraman, Morkaraman and Ivesi sheep races and Halep and hair felts, which have similar conditions of care and nutrition in Elazığ province, were taken into the study. A total of 200 head animals were used in the study, with each horse having 40 heads. Groups were formed in which half of the animals in each group were male, half of them half under the age of 1, and half of the animals below 1 year. After the physical examinations of the animals in these groups were made, 10 mL blood samples were taken from V. jugularis according to the procedure, in sterile gelled glass tubes (coated with aluminum foil to protect from light). Blood samples were taken by centrifugation at 3000 rpm for 10 minutes to form serum samples. Serum vitamin B12 levels were determined by autoanalyzer using commercial test kits and cobalt levels by atomic absorption spectrometry. In the study, serum cobalt levels in Ivesi, Akkaraman and Morkaraman sheep breeds female and male in under one year and over one year old were founded to be 5.38±1.42, 3.18±0.42, 6.53±1.06 (female in under one year), 5.26±1.52, 3.56±0.54, 7.44±1.01 (male in under one year), 11.28±1.36, 8.39±1.47, 7.87±1.64 (female in over one year), 3.96±0.59, 7.60±0.64, and 9.15±1.81 ppb (female in under one year), respectively. When evaluations are made according to race in Ivesi, Akkaraman and Morkaraman sheep breeds, serum cobalt levels were determined as 6.47±3.21, 5.68±2.50 and 7.75±1.67 ppb, respectively, and the difference between the groups was significant (P<0.05). In the study, serum cobalt levels in Halep and Hair goats breeds female and male in under one year and over one year old were founded to be 4.12±1.31, 3.74±1.13 (female in under one year), 7.68±1.50, 3.19±0.85 (male in under one year), 3.92±0.99, 5.68±1.56 (female in over one year) and 4.67±0.65, 6.73±1.95 ppb (male in over one year), respectively. Serum cobalt levels in Halep and Hair goats were found to be 5.10±1.89 and 4.84±2.00 ppb, respectively, and the difference between the groups was significant (P<0.05). In the study, serum levels of vitamin B12 in Ivesi, Akkaraman and Morkaraman sheep breeds female and male in under one year and over one year old were founded to be 409.20±121.48, 1489.60±153.16, 1320.20±318.64 (female in under one year), 917.70±509.10, 1097.40±342.59, 969.90±240.36 (male in under one year), 1066.52±400.80, 1806.70±275.28, 1691.80±289.22 (female in over one year), 372.00±108.66, 1337.40±612.54, 1364.70±482.03 ppb (male in over one year), respectively. When evaluations are made according to race in Ivesi, Akkaraman and Morkaraman sheep breeds, serum cobalt levels were determined as 691.35±445.87, 1432.77±452.13 and 1336.65±420.70 ppb, respectively, and the difference between the groups was significant (P<0.05). In the study, serum levels of vitamin B12 in Halep and Hair goats breeds female and male in under one year and over one year old were founded to be 496.50±172.18, 308.10±88.20 (female in under one year), 532.10±250.06, 264.70±98.23 (male in under one year), 989.50±324.32, 289.50±49.65 (female in over one year) and 444.90±275.02, 289.10±88.35 ppb (male in over one year), respectively. Serum levels of vitamin B12 in Halep and Hair goats were found to be 615.75±334.28 and 287.85±81.46 ppb, respectively, and the difference between the groups was significant (P<0.001). As a result, it has been determined that there is no insufficiency in clinical signs although there are differences in regional culmination, breed, sex, and age groups of serum cobalt and vitamin B12 levels detected in Ivesi, Akkaraman and Morkaraman sheep breeds and Halep and Hair goats races.
