Modernism and tradition in Fatma Barbarosoğlu's works of art

Born in Afyon in 1962, Barbarosoğlu completed her higher education on philosophy, she did her master degree in sufism, doctorated in sociology. She wrote up quite different works from her education. The sources feeding the author are tradition, sociology, philosophy, literature, sufism, cultural values and institution of family. In the first part of this study, it is stated that what the tradition and modernism are and how the modernism comes true in our country and in the world. As for the second part of this study, it is given some information about life of Fatma Barbarosoğlu, her sense of art and her works of art. In the third part of the study, tradition and the components of modernism are analyzed on the basis of her works of art, the author's stories, novels, essays, reviews, article, and interviews, the modernism and the tradition of her works. Barbarosoglu, who is tied to the modern pre-scientific understanding, shows the loneliness and alienation brought by modernism in his works by making use of the verses of hadith and proverb from the traditions of tradition.
