The subject of force and motion in science education: A content analysis study

The purpose of this study is to examine the master's theses, doctoral theses and articles written between 2006 and 2024 regarding the examination of studies on the subject of force and motion in Turkey. As a result of the screening conducted by determining the limitations at the YÖK National Thesis Center, 17 doctoral theses, 62 master's theses and 28 articles were found. Theses were examined using the content analysis method. Doctoral, master's theses and articles within the scope of research; It was examined according to the year of publication, universities, study group, type of publication, research method, importance, presence of a research discussion and suggestion section, research method, technique and approach, and research purpose. Codes were given to the studies and the data obtained as a result of the coding was transferred to the Excel program. The percentages of the data were calculated and figures and tables were created. As a result of the research; It was determined that there were more master's theses than doctoral theses and articles, thesis studies were the most in 2018, the highest number of doctoral thesis studies belonged to Karadeniz Technical University, master's thesis studies belonged to Gazi University, and article studies belonged to Hacettepe University and İnönü University. Study groups mostly consist of 6th grade students with a rate of 67% (36). 62 of the theses include master's theses, 17 are doctoral theses and 28 are articles. According to the type of publication, quantitative methods were used in 26 (24%) studies, mixed methods were used in 54 (50%) studies, while qualitative methods were used in 27 (25%) studies. It is observed that the majority of the studies examined, 72 (67%), emphasize the importance of the study. In most of the studies, discussion (86) and suggestion (95) sections were highlighted. According to the method, technique and approach used in the research, the semi-experimental method was preferred with a rate of 34 (31.75%) at most. According to the purposes of the studies, it was stated that the most contribution to academic success was the study of 11 (17.74%).
