Abstract (EN)
In this study, it is aimed to reveal the perception and evaluation of the local people regarding the physical, socio-cultural and economic effects of the second homes in Foça on the space. Since the second half of the 20th century, coastal settlements and second residences concentrated in rural areas have some physical, socio-cultural and economic effects on the space. The pressure on the physical environment of the second homes, which have developed unplanned and irregularly due to economic concerns for many years, is gradually increasing. In addition, it is known that there are some socio-cultural conflicts as a result of the confrontation of two separate groups (local residents and second residents) with different socio-cultural characteristics with the second home development. Apart from the mentioned negative effects of the second homes, increasing the environmental protection awareness, economic income generating effect, diversification of employment etc. There are also positive effects. Since the 1980s, many rural areas, especially the surroundings of the metropolitan areas and the coastal settlements, are facing the second home invasion. In the 21st century, most of the coastline, especially the Mediterranean Basin and the Scandinavian coast, is under the pressure of tourist urbanization and second homes. In the literature, although the issue of the effects of the second homes has become popular in recent years, it is seen that there are still a limited number of studies. In addition, it is understood that there are not enough studies showing the local people's perspectives on the mentioned effects of the second homes. Although the subject of the study is an important and up-to-date problem for coastal settlements and rural areas, the need to complete the gap noticed in the related literature has played an important role in selecting the research topic. In the research, a questionnaire was applied to 432 people residing in Foça throughout the year. The collected data were compiled and analyzed by IBM SPSS Statisticts 25 software. In the research, frequency tests were applied to determine the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants and their perspectives on the effects of the second dwellings. In addition, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied with the T test in order to reveal the perspectives on the mentioned effects of the second homes according to the demographic characteristics of the local people. According to the emphases obtained, it was understood that the local people were satisfied with the fact that they obtained economic income from the second landlords, while the second residences were disturbed by the negative effects on the physical environment. In addition, local people have a negative perspective due to the negative effects of the second homes on the socio-cultural structure. In order to ensure successful tourism and social integration in Foça, it is crucial to ensure the sustainable development of second homes and to increase their interaction with the local people.
