Abstract (EN)

Tile bodies are produced by shaping and firing of raw materials according to a certain recipe. After that, these biscuits are decorated and glazed to produce artistic products namely called traditional Turkish tile. Under glaze decoration is generally used in most of the traditional Turkish tile products and in order to highlight the effect of this decoration, transparent frit based glazes are used. Nowadays, phosphorescence pigments are evaluated in these glazes. The aim of the study is to investigate the glaze-body relationships in various traditional Turkish tile glazes capable of phosphorescence ability. In this study, softening temperatures of the frits are determined by hot stage microscopy and four different glaze systems are developed according to these results. Glazes are applied onto biscuits and fired at 850 oC. After that, 9 % wt phosphorescence pigment is added into the selected smooth textured recipes. Glazes are examined in terms of glaze-body relationship and their surfaces are photographed. The excitation and emission spectra of glazes are recorded by fluorescence spectrophotometer. According to the results it is determined that phosphorescence pigment added glazes are suitable with traditional Turkish tile bodies.
