Functional recommendations for the preservation of Gazipasa avenue traditional architecture

Re-functioning is very important in order to keep every architectural structure with historical and cultural value alive in a way that will respond to contemporary needs within the perception of a sustainable city. Undoubtedly, one of the most important goals in all historical architectural structures transformed by re-functioning is the concept of conservation. At the point of transferring the traditions and cultural richness of societies based on the past to future generations, the preservation of this socio-cultural accumulation is realized by re-functioning. Re-functioning in the context of both monumental and civil architectural structures is considered as a contemporary conservation intervention in order to keep the architectural culture on the verge of destruction and disappearance in an idle state and to transfer it to the future. As a regional formation of traditional Turkish houses, it is important to re-function the traditional Black Sea houses, which are not used in an idle state and are on the verge of extinction, and make them meet regional needs. In the light of this information, this study examines the traditional Black Sea houses, which have the characteristics of late period Ottoman civil architecture, located on Gazipaşa Street in Giresun, Tirebolu District; By creating building tags for these buildings, functional suggestions are given for each traditional house within the scope of re-functioning.
