Food loss and waste problem

Food loss and waste has become a concerning situation for the world and Turkey. In today's world, while millions of people are hungry, many people struggle with obesity. While some people need food aid, tons of food is wasted and thrown away by others. Waste and unconscious consumption of food causes waste of all resources used in food production. The aim of this study is to draw attention to food loss and waste. In this study, the concepts of consumption, waste and savings are mentioned. In addition, in this study, the definition of food loss and waste, the causes of food loss and waste in the food supply chain, the size of food wastage in the world and in Turkey have been examined. In the study, studies aimed at reducing food waste in Turkey is included. Finally, one-on-one interviews were held with five businesses about the estimated amount of waste and costs in the mixed breakfast in Gaziantep, and the results of the interviews were tabulated.
