Linguistically of tradition and ideology: The Gadamer-Habermas discussion

The starting points of Gadamer and Habermas, who discuss the possibility of reaching correct information and understanding, are close to each other. Both philosophers think that there is always a linguistic distance between the object and the subject of knowledge and experience.Comprehension takes place within the boundaries of language with a linguistic mediation. According to Gadamer, language is the environment that surrounds people and shapes understanding. Tradition creates a world of meaning for people with language.According to Habermas, the use of language determines human experience and knowledge of the world.Due to the inevitability of linguistic mediation, the problem of language orientation and deformation arises.The two thinkers differ in the solution they try to bring to this problem.Habermas thinks that with Gadamer's theory of tradition, the pressure of authority and the manipulation of prejudices are justified, and therefore, it is almost impossible to reach accurate information due to the suppression of the critical mind.Gadamer, on the other hand, sees Habermas's attempt to free it from the oppression of power and authority by psychoanalysis, assuming language as sick, as practically impractical, and considers prejudice criticism to be a prejudice.So, how is it possible to reach correct information and criticize without applying psychoanalysis as a method and without being able to get out of the mediation of tradition?In our study, we aim to find an answer to this question. It will be tried to discuss how the correct information can be reached in the possibility of language deformation and the accuracy criteria of the information.
