The typologies of plan, facade and structural elements of traditional Halfeti houses

This thesis mainly aims at to determine architectural features and show the typology of architectural elements of Traditional Halfeti Houses which partly remained under Birecik Dam, have historical value and is an important touristic attraction in recent years. This study is seen as a step to hand on the traditional houses, which are the cultural heritage of Halfeti, to the next generations. In this context, the relief pictures (models) of 57 of 103 protected houses, in the Old Halfeti Center, have been prepared and an inventory has been formed about the houses studied. The study consists of six chapters. The first chapter is the introduction part and the protection problems of traditional Halfeti houses, our cultural heritage, have been cited. In the second chapter a summary has been given about the resources used for this study. In the third chapter, the aim and the scope of this study has been determined under the subtitles of material and method. The historical and physical characteristics of Halfeti have been explained; Information about the historical development and old characteristics of the city has been described. Factors affecting the typology of traditional Halfeti houses have also been discussed in this chapter. In the fourth chapter; architectural features of traditional Halfeti houses have been explicated in general forms; plan and facade features, construction techniques and materials of Halfeti houses, have been studied. The factors causing deterioration in traditional Halfeti houses have also been discussed. In the fifth chapter; solutions for the deteriorating traditional feature and protection of the houses has been referred as a result of the studies and findings. In the sixth chapter; books, journals, dissertations, symposia and other sources used have been listed.
