Non-Muslims living in Ottoman territories based on the Gerlach and Tournefort Travelogues

In this thesis, the travel books written by Stephan Gerlach and Joseph de Tournefort due to their visit to the Ottoman Empire in the sixteenth century and the seventeenth century were examined. Worship, clothing, rights, churches, clergy, funeral and marriage ceremonies of Christians and Jews living in the Ottoman Empire were discussed. Additional sources have also been used for comparison. In the first part, the importance of travel books in terms of the history of religions and the works of some travelers who came to the Ottoman Empire are mentioned. In the second part, it was tried to give information about the studies done for Islamic studies in Europe and the attitude of Europe towards Muslims. In the third part, Christians and Jews living in the Ottoman Empire were examined according to the expressions in Gerlach and Tournefort's travel books.
