Analysis of folk culture elements in Gülten Dayıoğlu's works for children

Culture and literature are two complementary parts of each other. While literature feeds on culture, culture continues with literature. A literaty product gains richness with the cultural elements it contains. Gülten Dayıoğlu is one of the leading writers of children's literature. During her teaching years, she had opportunity to get to know children closely and produced works in field of children's literature, which was weak at that time. Her works have continued their effects until today. In her works, she teaches the young audience by entertaining them. The main purpose of this thesis is to analyse Dayıoğlu's work in terms of folk culture and values education. In the first part of the research, information about children's literature, folk culture, values education and Dayıoğlu is given. In the second part, the works are examined and evaluated in terms of folk culture in term of titles. The third part the values found in the works are found and interpreted. In the research, 20 works of Dayıoğlu were analysed. While elements of folk culture are frequently encountered, it is determined that the most common value tried to be given is love.
