Abstract (EN)

The time gap between the Dark Age and the Hellenistic period constitutes an important stage in Greek history. İn the middle of the 8th century BC, the large-scale migration movement of Greek people, which began in different regions of Aegean Region their homelands, lasted more than two centuries and the settlements they had built in various shapes and sizes extended to the Mediterranean Region. Around 500 BC the Greek World expanded from Spain in the West to the ends of the Black Sea in the east, to the northern shores of Africa in the South and to Ukraine in the North. The migration of the Greek people to different geographies and the structuring they established in the regions they visited is called colonization in historical terminology. Researchers in the field of colonialism through time and space, suggest that the period has gained an increasingly intriguing feature; they argued that the reasons for Greek colonization could not be explained on simple grounds and should be considered in a systematic whole. The activites carried out in the Western Mediterranean and Italy, one of the two stages of colonization mobility, each of which lasted more than a century, became an important part of this unity and the region was named Megale Hellas with many colonies established in southern Italy and Sicily.
