Abstract (EN)
This dessertation under the name of "Violence Of The News: A Study Of Hate Speech In Turkish Printed Press" is a study in which hate speech is analyzed through Hürriyet Newspaper in the case of Gezi Park Protests. One of the greatest obstacles to living together in contemporary societies is the hate speech that is constantly circulating on the social sphere. Today, hate speech goes beyond the concepts such as race, ethnicity, religion, gender and sexual orientation, and all identities outside the discursive order accepted by the ruling majority are alienated and subjected to hate speech. The media, using discriminatory language in Turkey, sometimes influences the shaping of common sense through implicit codes rather than clear and obvious discursive practices and reproduces dominant codes independently of certain identities and indicators. The indicators of hate speech, coded into the text and the page, not to be noticed, are problematic because they are become natural and unquestionable, and block the way of negotiant reading. These implicit codes can become even more dangerous as they have the potential to affect wider masses, especially if they are propagated through the mainstream media. Therefore, Hürriyet Newspaper, which is one of the most important representatives of the mainstream, is chosen and it is aimed to analyze the hate speech signs which are coded in news texts, which can emerge through page design or can be read at a level of connotation. With the perspective of centered indicators of hate speech, it is aimed to be determined in the research that the Gezi Park Protests are mentioned in the news over which codes and practices of hate speech, which groups are exposed to hate speech with which arguments. With grounding on Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis in the study, an analysis was made over the indicators of six hate speeches. 217 news about Gezi Park Protests in Hürriyet during the period between 29 May 2013 and 15 July 2013 were examined and the relationality of these symptoms and regularity in the discourse are tried to asserted. Key Words: Discourse, Hate Speech, Printed Media, Gezi Park Protests, Critical Discourse Analysis.
