Abstract (EN)

KIRMIZIGÜL, Tayfun, The interactions of instruments used in Harput's (Elazığ) music with the dialect. - (M.A thesis,Van,2019) Harput dialect has a characteristic feature in Turkish Folk Music.Just like other Turkish Folk Music dialects including Arguvan style,Barak style and Bozlak style , Harput style has a special place in its own region. It has a crucial impact in Eastern and Southern Eastern Anatolia regions known as 'Hoyrat Yöreleri' and in Kirkuk-Azerbaijan territory. In addition to its distinctive modes (music) , it serves a important function in the composition of other local modes into the regions in which Turkish music is performed. The instruments played in Harput(Elazığ) music has been changed in the history, however, in modern times Turkish musical instruments such as clarinet, qanun, cumbush, oud, violin, tambourine, drum has been used predominantly. It is obvious that dialect performed in the region has affected the playing characteristics of instruments and it is reflected on as a special instrument playing style. It has been clearly seen in the written documents that playing an intrument has been ignored when compared to being a vocalist. It is also seen that instrumentalists living in this region has been mostly non-muslims and they has been affected by the local bards. Those instrumentalist who learn the local musical style (dialect) from bards has played a crucial role in the formation of local mode(music). In this study, the effect of local vocal style (dialect) upon the performing style of instruments has been identified by one by one interviews with local artists and studying on written and online resources.
