Grammatical space coders in Hasan Ali Toptaş's "Sonsuzluğa Nokta" novel

In this study, the concept of grammatical space, which is one of the basic elements of a narrative together with time and person elements, was tried to be examined. The subject of the study is Hasan Ali Toptaş's novel "Sonsuzluğa Nokta", and the sample is the sentences taken from that novel. The aim of this thesis is to detect the factors that are effective in determining the space, to determine the space encoders and the connections between them, thus to present a method for grammatical space analysis in Turkish of Turkey. With this perspective, the study was approached holistically and the subject of grammatical space was discussed in terms of discourse analysis in the context of suffixes, words, phrases, sentences, and texts, starting from the smallest unit. In the introduction part of the study, the scope, purpose, importance, corpus, method, and limitations of the thesis are explained. Then, general theoretical information about the knowledge of space and how space is seen in Turkish of Turkey is presented. The second part of the study is the Investigation part, in which its main importance is revealed. Accordingly, knowledge of space was evaluated in a holistic framework within the context of both location and space/place. First of all, knowledge of space was approached from a spatial perspective and spatial relations were determined. Then, nouns, verbs, adverbs, prepositions and suffixes carrying these encoders as space encoder were examined with a determined context-based approach. Later in the novel, the transition from concrete to abstract in the knowledge of space and the knowledge of space given directly or indirectly are discussed with repetitions and implicature / inference sentences. At this point, intra-language / extra-language references and in-text context were used. In the conclusion part, by making use of the results obtained from the examination, the points to be considered for the grammatical space analysis were mentioned, and then the study was completed by presenting the references.
