Effect of health literacy level on nursing care satisfaction i̇n patients, nursing program, master' s thesis

The research was conducted in a descriptive-cross-sectional type to determine the effect of health literacy levels on nursing care satisfaction in patients. The research was completed with 230 patients who were in internal medicine and general surgery bed services at Kahramanmaraş Necip Fazıl City Hospital and agreed to participate in the research. Research data; created by scannig the literature by the researcher, identifying information form NSNCS (Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Care Scale) and HLS (from the Health Literacy Scale) was collected with a questionnaire. The minimum score that can be obtained from the NSNCS is 19 and the highest score is 95. Fisher skewness-kurtosis was evaluated whether the data was suitable for normal distribution. Independet Samples t Test, one way Anova and Tukey HSD test were used to determine the difference between the groups. Statistical evaluation of the data was done with SPSS 22.0 package program. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant in statistical analyses. 61.7% of the respondents were male, 77.4% were married, 55.2% were primary school graduates, and 56.5% were between the ages of 18 and 45. The relationship between NSNCS and HLS total scores was evaluated by the correlation study and there was a positive directional and moderate correlation between scale total scores (r=0.507, p<0.01). Based on this result, it is necessary to increase the level of health literacy of patient by determining the level of health literacy of health workers in patients and ensuring that patients benefit from health education and counseling services on the necessary issues.
