Abstract (EN)
The master thesis consists of three chapters describing the shuttle weaving collection prepared from mosaic samples of Hatay Archeology Museum. In the first chapter, the historical process of Hatay Archeology Museum and its development until the present, historical period animations and works created in the museum layout plan are explained. The Hatay Archeology Museum, which has been moved to its new building in 2014 with 3500 square meters of mosaic display area, is the museum with the largest mosaic collection in the world. The ancient name of the Daphne region, today known as Harbiye. The mosaics of the Roman and Byzantine Periods, which were mostly built as floorings, included mythological subjects and scenes from daily life. According to mosaic making techniques, stylistic features and design features; "Oceanos Mosaic, Drunken Dionyssos Mosaic, Abandoned Ariadne Mosaic, Tryphe and Bios Mosaic, Narcissus Mosaic, Birds Mosaic, Fish and Ducks Mosaic, Lotus Flower Bunch Mosaic, Andromeda Perseus and Dancers Mosaic" were selected. The technical features and mythological stories of the mosaics have been tried to be explained in the works. In the second part, shuttle weaving and its history, which is still widespread in the region, is given. The status and development of Hatay silk weaving which is developed by silkworm rearing, which has a long history in the region, is explained with its technical and color features. In the third part, shuttle weaving designs prepared from Hatay Archeology Museum mosaics and photographs of shuttle weaving produced from these designs are given.
