Abstract (EN)
Gastric cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Progression of gastric carcinogenesis is multi-step. A lot of genetic and epigenetic alterations have been identified. The GSTP?s are the family of enzymes that are critical rol in the detoxification. There for in this study, GSTP1 gene methylation profiles were analyzed in gastric cancer, Hp(-) and Hp(+) intestinal metaplasia groups. The patients who have been diagnosed histopathologically gastric cancer and intestinal metaplasia were included in our study. These patients underwent upper gastrointectinal endoscopy and fresh biopsy specimens were collected. From Department of Gastroenterology Celal Bayar University Medical Faculty and Department of Gastroenterology İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital 25 gastric cancer, 25 Hp(-) and 25 Hp(+) intestinal metaplasia patients were included in our study. As a control group was performed with upper gastrointestinal complaints and who has been histopathologically not diagnosed with gastric cancer and intestinal metaplasia. Analysis of the GSTP1 gene methylation profile is; in gastric cancer methylation was %28, unmethylation was %24, heterogeneous methylation was %48; In Hp(-) intestinal metaplasia group methylation was %28, unmethylation was %52, heterogeneous methylation was %20; In Hp(+) intestinal metaplasia group methylation was %32, unmethylation was %24, heterogeneous methylation was %44; In control group methylation was %26,6 , unmethylation was %40 , heterogeneous methylation was %33,34. The statistical significant difference were not found between all groups about methylation of GSTP1 gene. Because of the control group methylation %26,6, GSTP1 methylation profile is not suitable for early diagnosis of gastric cancer.
