Effect of nurses' professional values on job satisfaction and related factors

Abstract (EN)
Research was done as descriptive in order to determine the effect of professional values of nurses on job satisfaction and related factors. The research population was constituted by 1117 nurses with at least bachelor's degree employed in four hospitals including a university hospital, a training and research hospital, a public hospital and a private hospital located in Ankara and its sample was constituted by 390 nurses. However, the research was carried out with 325 nurses who agreed to participate in the research. The research data was collected with "Questionnaire Form Regarding the Descriptive Characteristics of Nurses", "Nurses' Professional Values Scale NPVS" and "Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire-MSQ". In the evaluation of the data, the number and percentage, Kruskal Wallis H Test, Mann Whitney U Test, Independent t Test, One-Way ANOVA Test and Pearson Correlation Analysis were used. In the research, it was found that NPVS total score mean 123.03±18.45 and professional values were at a good level, MSQ score mean 60.63±15.12 at general satisfaction and their job satisfactions were at an intermediate level. In the research, it was observed that professional values score mean of the nurses who have master's degree, have certificate related to nursing, read articles, take part in research project and bought book in last two years were significantly higher. When the nurses' job satisfaction mean scores were analyzed, it was determined that job satisfaction score means of the ones who are employed in private hospital, have managerial position and work in the daytime, chose the job willingly, are satisfied with their jobs, believe that their personality fits the job, have greater income than her expense, have good working conditions, do not think to leave their jobs and feel themselves safe in their jobs, think that their tasks are clearly specified, state that their organizations support their participation to scientific activities and employees of the organization are awarded are significantly higher. On the contrary, it was found that there was no statistically significant relationship between professional values and job satisfactions of the nurses. Necessary suggestions were made in accordance with the results obtained from the research. Keywords: Job satisfaction, nursing, professional values.
