Abstract (EN)
Objective: This study was conducted to determine the relationship between the types of music that nursing students listen to and their suicidal ideation and hopelessness levels. Meterial and Methods: The research was carried out as a descriptive cross-sectional period between February 2021 and January 2022. The population of the research consisted of 600 students studying at Aydın Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Nursing, and the sample of the study consisted of 235 students determined according to the sample calculation formula when the universe was certain. Research data were obtained with a personal information form, Suicide Probability Scale (SPS) and Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS). In the evaluation of the data; Descriptive statistics, Student's t-test, Anova test, Man Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis test were used. Results. The students participating in the research; A statistically significant difference was found between gender, social security status, family type characteristics, and PPS (p<0.05).A statistically significant difference was found between the students' gender, the high school they graduated from, the region where they lived for a long time, the family type, and BHS (p<0.05). It has been determined that women mostly prefer to listen to pop music genres, while men prefer hiphop/rap music genres the most.No statistically significant difference was found between the type of music they preferred and the SPS and BHS(p>0.05). A statistically significant difference was found between the students who listen to music for 6 hours or more per day, and the SPS and BHS (p<0.05). No significant difference was found between the level of suicidal ideation and hopelessness of students who preferred to listen to music when they felt bad (p>0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that the students who prefer hip-hop/rap music genre and listen to music for 6 hours or more daily have higher suicidal thoughts and hopelessness levels. Suicidal ideation was found to be higher in men, those with an extended family structure and those without social security. .In addition; It was determined that hopelessness levels were higher in males, Anatolian high school and Science high school graduates, those who lived in the Marmara Region for a long time, and students who had an extended family structure. It has been suggested to question the type of music that students listen to, to use music therapy in nursing education and practices, and to conduct more studies in this area.
