The effect of caste system in India on indian art: Dalit art

India has a caste system, which is not recognized by the legal system, but is still practiced among people. This is primarily based on Hindu beliefs. Lower castes (Dalits) are dissatisfied with this, while for upper castes, the caste system is an advantage. This affects many fields, including Indian art. In particular, Dalit artists work to eliminate discrimination through art. This thesis will examine the structure of the caste system in India and contribute to understanding it through art. The advantages and disadvantages of this situation will also be included. The works of Indian and especially Dalit artists will be analyzed in terms of the impact of the caste system on Indian art. The impact of Indian art on people will also be examined. Academic studies on this topic are inadequate worldwide. The purpose of this study is to create a more specific source on the relationship between Indian art and the caste system worldwide and to convey the resistance of people who are still resisting this caste system in the 21st century in order to live a peaceful life, thus highlighting the power of art to be inspiring and healing. In the scope of the study, works from different art branches in Indian art will be analyzed from a semiotic point of view. Also, interviews were conducted based on a form prepared by emailing with Dalit artists. It is expected that this study will have an illuminating aspect in terms of the relationship between art, human and society.
