Abstract (EN)

Aim of the study is to determine medication adherence among HIV positive people and AIDS patients and to determine the factors related with medication adherence. The universe of the study is 310 HIV positive people and AIDS patients attending Infectious Diseases Policlinic in Hacettepe University Hospital. The sample of the study was 158 HIV positive people and AIDS patients who accepted to join the study among universe. Data were collected from the respondents using interviewer–administered questionnaire. In addition, Morisky Medication Adherence Scale were used to determine medication adherence. Data were analysed using frequencies, hydrangea, Chi-Squared test and Spearman test. statistical significance set at p<0.05. According to results of our study, %26,6 of the respondents stated at least one dose missing, % 28,5 think that number of pills are much, % 29,7 stated side effects and % 82,9 express that they already had information about the use and potential side effects of drugs. In addition, %96,2 of the participants stated that they are statisfied about health care professionals' attitudes against them and % 42,4 of the respondents have stigma. %61 of the respondents found to be high adherent to Antiretroviral treatment. Social support, disease duration, medication duration and being informed about the antiretroviral regimen were found to be related with medication adherence. Giving information about use of the antiretroviral regimen, using reminders, ensuring socical support and determining factors that negatively affect the medication adherence are essential for high medication addherence among HIV positive people and AIDS patients.
