Abstract (EN)

The study was conducted to evaluate the incidence of infectious diseases according to the breast milk intake levels of children aged two to six years and the levels of nutrient consumption. Between November 2018 and February 2019, 131 children aged two to six years in two kindergartens in Şişli were included in the study. The data of the study were obtained from a six-part questionnaire. In the first part of the questionnaire, general information about the child and in the second part of the family are given. In the third chapter, the health status of the child and the drugs used were questioned and in the fourth chapter, eating habits are examined. The fifth part of the survey aims to determine the frequency of food consumption of the child. In the sixth part of the questionnaire, a scale was used to determine the behaviors of mothers about infectious diseases and hygiene. In addition, there are two consecutive daily food consumption records including one day on weekdays and one day on weekends. Nutritional Information Systems Package Program (BEBIS) was used for the analysis of food consumption and SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) program was used for statistical analysis. As a result of the analysis, 46.6% of the children included in the study were male and 53.4% were female. The body mass index, which is one of the anthropometric measurement values, was between 50 and 75 percentile with the highest rate of %22,1. 11,5% of the children were breastfed for six months and 47,3% for 7-24 months. Respiratory tract infections were seen in 79.4% of children, otitis infections in 81.7%, urinary tract infections in 15.3%, gastrointestinal infections in 29.8%. It was determined that daily average energy and nutrient consumption was related with age, gender and frequency of infection (p <0.05). When the relationship between the frequency of infectious diseases in children and the level of breast milk intake was evaluated, it was concluded that there was a significant relationship between the frequency of urinary tract infections and the consumption of breast milk (p <0.05).
