Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted as a quasi-experimental study in order to determine whether there is a difference in terms of phlebitis development and cost, and to evaluate patient satisfaction in patients whose peripheral intravenous catheters in Teflon and violane structure were changed routinely (every 72 hours) and in the presence of a clinical indication. The study was carried out in 100 patients who were hospitalized in Torbalı State Hospital Internal Services between November 2021 and April 2022, who met the inclusion criteria and accepted to participate in the study. The patients in the control group were divided into Teflon group 25, vialon group 25, and in the study group the Teflon group 25 and the vialon group 25, the peripheral intravenous catheter changed in the presence of clinical indication in the study group. Peripheral intravenous catheters of the patients in the control group were routinely changed every 72 hours. Peripheral intravenous catheter of the patients in the study group was changed in the presence of clinical indication. Personal Information Form, Visual Infusion Phlebitis Diagnostic Scale and Newcastle Nursing Satisfaction Scale were used to collect data. Descriptive statistical methods, Cochran Q test, Kolmogorov Smirnov and Shaphiro Wilk tests, Mann Whitney U test were used to evaluate the data. As a result of the study, it was found that the most phlebitis was seen in the Teflon group, whose peripheral intravenous catheter was changed in the presence of clinical indication, from the 48th hour to the 72th hour when the phlebitis developed, and that phlebitis developed the most at the 96th hour from the 72nd hour to the phlebitis development in the vialon group, and there was a statistically significant difference between the groups. (p<0.05), there was a statistically significant difference in terms of costs in the control and study groups (p<0.05), the cost of teflon groups was lower than the vialon groups, and there was no significant difference between the satisfaction levels of the groups (p>0, 05) and satisfaction levels were found to be high. In conclusion, the peripheral intravenous catheter insertion site of the patients should be observed and recorded frequently in terms of the development of phlebitis, changes should be ensured in the presence of clinical indications, and the use of vialon catheters should be expanded to reduce invasive procedures in special patient groups.
