Perceptions of supervisors, administrators, and primary school teachers concerning the sufficiency level of the teacher supervision form which is used at primary education (a case study in Gaziantep)

Supervision is a process which helps motivate the workers and make themview the future more positively. Employees in the field of education can developthemselves and their systems due to the feedback they receive from the supervision.The title of the study is ?Perceptions of Supervisors, Administrators, andPrimary School Teachers Concerning the Sufficiency Level of the TeacherSupervision Form Which Is Used at Primary Education.?The main aim of this study is to determine the degree of acceptance of theitems in the supervision form and of the items developed by the researcher. Inaddition, it aims to find out whether there are opinion differences between thesubjects? ?genders, institutions, ranking status, departments, and faculties.?Population of the research consists of 120 primary education schools, 68 ofwhich are located in Sahinbey, Gaziantep, and 52 of which are located in Sehitkamil,Gaziantep, in the academic year 2003-2004, when the research was conducted.Twenty four randomly selected schools were observed. Three hundred and fifty twoteachers were reached (fifty one of them were the teachers working in villages). Thesampling was formed by 31 supervisors and 51 administrators. Twenty percent of theteachers? population was included in the research.In order to collect data, a 45-item ?Teachers Attitude MeasurementConcerning Behaviours to Be Analysed during the Supervision of Teachers? wasdeveloped and administered. The first part of the three-part instrument included 5questions related to personal information. The second part consisted of 36 itemsforming the ?Teacher Supervision Form to Be Used at Primary Education Level.? Inthe third part, there were 9 items developed by the researcher. These items weredeveloped by means of surveying the literature and consulting some experts.The collected data were analysed by means of a package-programme calledSPSS 10.0. T-test and one-way variance analysis (anova) were used to interpret thedata obtained.This research is thought to reflect the opinions of the teachers, administratorsand supervisors participating in the study concerning the sufficiency and adequacy ofthe ?Teacher Supervision Form?. It is expected that the research may add to thedevelopment of supervision forms from now on, and contribute to the literature inthis field.Key Words: Educational Supervision, Supervision Form
