An Analysis of the relationship between primary school principals` instructional leadership behaviors and their emotional intelligence (a case study in Gaziantep)

The populatıon of the study consisted of87 primary school principals and 1753 primary school teachers. The questionnairewas administered to 38 principals and 254 teachers in 14 primary schools chosen byrandom sampling technique. Reliabilities of the instructional leadership behavioursand emotional intelligence questionnaire were found 0.99 and 0.94 respectively.Pearson-product correlation technique was applied to fınd out the relationshipbetween instructional leadership behaviours and emotional intelligence. The resultobtained from statistical analysis of the data are as follows:- According to the perceptions of the teachers, there is a high relationship betweenleadership behaviours and emotional intelligence of their principals.- School principals using emotional intelligence in their leadership behaviours aremore effective in the organization of school climate, interpersonal relationshipmanagement, etc.- This research may provide data useful for the inservice training of schoolprincipals.Key Words: Instructional Leadership, Emotional Intelligence, Self-Consciousness,Self-Management, Interpersonal Relationship Management, Social Consciousness
