The contributions of management of school on professional development of primary school teachers

The influence of teachers, tracking the innovations, having vision and with selfdevelopment is obvious for better educational services as well as the effective schoolmanagement. Regarding the importance of profession of teaching on development of state,many societies make regulations hereupon. Studies show that professional development is anecessity for the proper execution of the teaching service and a higher level of educationalquality.The purpose of this research is defining the contributions of management of schoolon professional development of primary school teachers and making suggestions on thiscomprehension.In this research, the concepts of management processes and manager are held and thenotion of school management, managers and teachers and their features have been explained.Next, the information about capabilities of teachers and their professional developments andto what extent and knowhow the managers positively contribute to the development ofteachers is conveyed.The study was designed in the form of a quantitative study, and during the study thedescriptive method was used. The scope of the study consists of the teachers, joinedcoincidentally, and recruited in the primary schools located in the provincial center ofİstanbul. By using this method it has reached 369 teachers who work at 20 primary schools indifferent districts in the provincial center of İstanbul.Through the process of collecting data for the research, first literature from thenational and international publications was screened for the survey draft, then the survey ?Thequestionnaire for contributions of managers to the professional development of teachers?,improved with the consulting of the experts, was applied on the participants constituting thesampling pool and after that the data of survey was transferred to the digital media. Thestatistical analysis of data is conducted with a software pack of SPSS Windows-Statistics 15.In the phase of data analysis, first the values of frequency, percentage, average andstandard deviation was determined, then for detecting whether a meaningful statisticaldifference between the answers of the participants of ?The questionnaire for contributions ofmanagers to the professional development of teachers?, t-test and one-sided variance analysiswas conducted. Finally, to determine the source of statistical difference, one of acomplementary analysis, ?Scheffe Test?, was applied.There are findings about the contributions of school managers for professionaldevelopment of primary school teachers.As the result of the analysis of the findings, the activities held by managers forcontribution of professional development of teachers should be regarded and also foundedthat the contribution from managers to teachers is better in private schools.Suggestions were made according to the findings which were obtained in this research.
