Examination of the relationship between primary school students' parent attitudes and aggression levels

The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between primary school students' parental attitudes and aggression levels. The research was carried out in accordance with the school survey method, one of the general screening models. The study group of the research consists of 543 people, 270 men and 273 women. The mean age of the study group was 7.990±1.276. In the research, data on the aggression of primary school students were obtained by using the "Aggression Scale for Children Parent Form". The data on parental attitudes were obtained by using the 'Parental Attitude Scale (APTS)-B Form'. In the hypothesis testing phase of the study, the conformity of the measurement scores to the normal distribution was measured with the Shapiro-Wilk test. According to the Shapiro-Wilk test findings, it was determined that the measurement scores were not suitable for normal distribution. In the light of this finding, the Mann-Whitney U test, which is one of the two independent group comparison tests, and the Spearman correlation test were used to determine the direction and severity of the relationship between the two numerical measurements. According to the research results; Aggression total scores of female students are lower than male students. In addition, female students' verbal aggression, aggression towards objects and animals, and unprovoked physical aggression sub-dimension scores were lower than male students. When the findings are examined, there are negative significant relationships between democratic attitude and unprovoked physical aggression scores; positive and significant relationships between oppressive and authoritarian attitudes and provoked physical aggression scores; A positive and significant relationship was found between over-tolerant attitude and unprovoked physical aggression. When the findings were examined, it was determined that there was a positive and significant relationship between the total scores of the students' parental child-rearing attitude scale and the total scores of the parent assessment scale.
