Physical Education and Sports course from the perspective of informal learning digital transformation

The purpose of this study is to examine in detail why Physical Education Teachers prefer informal learning, and their experiences with digital transformation and technological competence in physical education/sports lessons. The research was carried out using the phenomenology design. Six Physical Education and Sports teachers who preferred informal learning participated in the study voluntarily. In order to collect data, interviews were conducted using semi-structured interview questions. Interview recordings were categorized by thematic content analysis using the MAXQDA program. As a result of the thematic content analysis, findings were obtained under two main themes: professional learning and digital transformation. Findings related to professional learning emerged as sub-themes of personal development, formal and informal learning and professional competence. Sub-titles related to digital transformation were determined as digital literacy, Web 2.0 tools used and physical education teacher characteristics that changed in the digital age. In the research, physical education and sports teachers prefer informal learning to respond to student needs more effectively. This is because in this way it is possible to save time as well as provide quick access to up-to-date information and research. It has been concluded that they do not oppose formal education, on the contrary, it should be developed and the level should be determined according to branches. According to the information obtained from the research, technological competence has positive contributions to colleagues and students. Web 2.0 tools used as synchronous and asynchronous not only motivate students but also contribute to the efficient teaching of the lesson. It has been concluded that physical education teachers should adapt to the digital age we are in, and that there should be a teacher profile that follows the innovations that update themselves and conveys them to their students in the most accurate way.
