Investigation of the effect of context-based learning on the development of entrepreneurial skills in the science course of secondary school students

Individuals need to have life skills in order to produce solutions to the problems of the 21st century. It is seen that the concept of entrepreneurship skills, which is included in life skills, is highly emphasized in the European commission reports. MEB (2018) stated that it will contribute to the development of entrepreneurship skills in learning environments that adopt an innovative learning approach in which students take an active role. The main purpose of this research is to examine the effect of context-based learning on the development of entrepreneurship skills in secondary school students' science courses. The research was designed as a quasi-experimental study. Convenience sampling method, which is one of the non-random sampling methods, was used to determine the school and class where the research took place. In this context, the participants of the researcher consisted of 45 (21 experimental and 24 control group) 7th grade students in the second semester of the 2019-2020 academic year in a secondary school located in the Saimbeyli district center of Adana province. In the teaching process, business science courses for based learning education, which were trained by education groups, were taught.The control group was taught as specified in the science course curriculum. The research data were collected with the academic achievement test and the entrepreneurship skills scale. The collected data were analyzed with the SPSS program. Shapiro Wilk test and Mann-Whitney U test and descriptive statistical analysis were used to analyze the data. As a result of the research, it was determined that the use of context-based learning approach made a statistically significant difference in the academic achievement and entrepreneurship skills of the students.
