The role of perceived organizational support in the relationship between work-life balance and burnout: A research on textile workers

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it is aimed to examine the mediating role of perceived organizational support, which is one of the important issues for today's employees and organizations, in the relationship between work-life balance and burnout. Within the scope of the role of perceived organizational support in the relationship between work-life balance and burnout, 384 white-collar employees working in textile companies formed the sample of the research. Questionnaire technique was used as a data collection tool in the research. In the first part of the questionnaire, there are demographic questions describing the participants. In the other sections, there are three scales: "Work-Life Balance Scale", "Burnout Scale" and "Perceived Organizational Support Scale". Data analysis was done in SPSS v22.0 package program. As a result of the research; work-life adjustment, one of the sub-dimensions of work-life balance for age; It has been observed that there is a significant difference in the dimensions of taking time for oneself according to education level and the dimensions of life consisting of work according to professional experience. It was determined that the evaluations of the participants' burnout sub-dimensions showed a significant difference in all dimensions only according to the age variable. Regarding perceived organizational support, it was observed that there was a significant difference between the groups only according to the variable of educational status. According to the results of the correlation analysis, all dimensions of burnout in the self-spending time dimension of work-life balance; Depersonalization and sense of personal accomplishment dimensions of work-life adjustment; It has been determined that there is a positive relationship between the dimensions of life consisting of work and neglecting life with the dimensions of depersonalization and emotional exhaustion. There is a positive relationship between all sub-dimensions of work-life balance and perceived organizational support; When we look at the relationship between perceived organizational support and burnout dimensions, it has been determined that there is only a positive relationship between the sense of personal achievement and burnout. As a result of the mediation test conducted to determine the role of perceived organizational support in the participants' professional burnout and work-life balance, it was determined that perceived organizational support had a full mediating role only in the relationship between the dimensions of work-life balance, taking time for oneself and work-life adjustment, and burnout with the sense of personal accomplishment.
